Forever overview

World of Warcraft: Forever

Forever Hardcore

One life. Start with a plan.

Get ready for your first run with confirmed rules, questions to settle with friends, and tools to learn Forever’s version of Azeroth.

Before Hardcore launch

Hardcore is planned for after Forever launches. The announcements cited here do not give an exact Hardcore release date.

Confirmed Hardcore rules

Know which run you are signing up for

Can a character continue after death?
Blizzard says a dead Hardcore character can transfer to another ruleset, including PvP.
Can friends on other rulesets join you?
No. Dungeon and raid groups stay within the same ruleset. Horde and Alliance also remain separate.
Does Hardcore progress carry elsewhere?
Blizzard says progress, collections and rewards earned in Hardcore can become available on other rulesets. Progress from other rulesets does not flow back into Hardcore.

These rules answer important planning questions. They do not settle every restriction: the sources here are not a complete reference for Hardcore trading, mail, professions or dungeon limits. Classic Hardcore rules should not fill those gaps.

Planning your run

Agree on what happens if someone dies

Before you create characters

Choose the same ruleset and faction as your friends. A tank, healer and damage dealer still cannot form the intended group if their characters are on incompatible rulesets.

Talk about pace, too. Decide whether you will save that character for sessions together or keep leveling when someone is away.

Before you need a second attempt

If someone dies and transfers out, that character cannot keep playing with the group’s surviving Hardcore characters because cross-ruleset grouping is not supported.

Will you start again together, or will the survivors continue? Both are reasonable choices. Agreeing early avoids making that decision in the middle of a bad evening.

Our planning advice follows the confirmed grouping and transfer rules; it is not an additional game restriction.

Regular Forever beta references

Learn your options before choosing a build

These tools cover regular Forever. Use them to understand your choices while Hardcore-specific recommendations develop. A tooltip alone cannot tell you whether an ability reliably saves a run.

Classes & survival tools

Start with the class changes. Think about how you recover from a bad pull, interrupt a caster or help a friend when a fight goes wrong.

Talent choices

Compare a defensive point with what you give up elsewhere. Check prerequisites and how far into a tree you need to go before a planned build comes together.

Professions

Look beyond the final crafted reward. A useful leveling tool needs to be obtainable when you need it, with materials you can realistically gather.

Compare Forever professions

For a first pass, pick one class you enjoy and compare two talent paths. Write down the defensive choice, its prerequisites and what you give up to take it. Keep “this looks useful” separate from “this has been tested in Hardcore.”

Leveling & dungeon preparation

Familiar scenery can hide an unfamiliar fight

Forever brings new quests, dungeons and class changes. Classic experience helps, but it is not a guarantee that a pull will behave the way you remember. Blizzard’s panel recap outlines what is changing.

Make regular-beta sessions useful

  • Before a pull: look for patrols, nearby packs and a way back out. Mark unfamiliar enemies and quests for another look.
  • Before a dungeon: agree who interrupts, who handles an extra enemy and when the group stops to recover.
  • After a close call: note your level, gear, abilities and what caused the problem. A tactic that worked for one group may depend on tools yours does not have.

These are preparation habits, not a tested Forever Hardcore route. We will add specific leveling and dungeon guides when the relevant encounters and conditions can support them.
