Shaman changes: Flame Shock setup, indoor movement and healing flow
Some changes alter a damage sequence; others remove a travel restriction or change how healing bonuses arrive.

Early beta · Starting plans for level 20
What we would play, and why.
We would start with Enhancement for a melee journey, then choose between movement and mana savings according to the route. Tanking is an interesting later experiment that needs its own evidence.
Check the setup before judging the sustain
A rough mana experience is hard to interpret when the setup changes mid-run. Before comparing gear or a rotation, check the personal shield you intend to use and repeat a similar pull. This demo moment is a preparation lesson, not proof that your opening-level character has the same toolkit.
Travel time and drinking compete for the same points
For long outdoor circuits, faster transformations are attractive. In a compact camp where mana ends each pull, compare the spell-cost talent instead. Intellect can serve two purposes in this toolkit, so inspect the whole item rather than rejecting it simply because you are attacking in melee.
Rockbiter changes the threat assignment
A damage player should check the weapon buff before joining a tanked group. A would-be Shaman tank needs a later build and a willing group to test threat, damage intake and recovery. This talent cannot justify calling Shaman a proven tank at the opening level-20 cap.
Three trees. Different possibilities.

Early talents only. The full trees below include later-level choices.
This keeps a point for Ghost Wolf at 20, prioritizing travel within an eleven-point budget.
When to choose differently: If most of the session is in one camp or dungeon, compare a third Mental Dexterity point with the travel talent.
Protect your reserve
Refresh Lightning Shield and your weapon enhancement before pulling. Hold Earth Shock for a dangerous cast; when mana is low, let melee attacks finish rather than spending another shock.
Use the terrain
Pull into useful totem coverage and leave room to move. Earthbind offers a way to create space instead of trading every incoming hit.
Carry support gear
If you want to heal a leveling group, keep useful healing pieces and water. That second role needs preparation even while your main talents favor melee.
Choose a route that suits your toolkit
Better pulls before longer journeys.
Compact outdoor circuits make it easier to reuse a good fighting position. For longer travel, inspect Improved Ghost Wolf in the current tree; check class-quest availability before leaving your trainer region.

Classic geography gives a planning baseline: Elwynn → Westfall, Dun Morogh → Loch Modan, Teldrassil → Darkshore, Durotar / Mulgore → the Barrens, or Tirisfal → Silverpine. These are route suggestions, not verified Forever quest sequences.

A self-crafting direction for a melee leveling plan. Check which current recipes suit your level and role.
A useful alternative when healing and damage both put pressure on your mana and consumable supply.
PvP: a different set of decisions
Choose when to spend the shared shock cooldown: an interrupt or slow may be worth more than another damage cast. Keep an escape line rather than standing beyond your support.
Choose your next gear upgrade.
Weapon upgrades matter for Enhancement; compare caster and healing pieces separately if you change roles. Do not turn an untested hybrid stat interaction into a universal priority list.
New itemization and recipes can change familiar gear choices.
Our reasoning and research
Our recommendations weigh the talent toolkit, player observations and the kind of session you want to have. Early beta impressions do not establish a final best build.

Travel time and drinking compete for the same points
Improved Ghost Wolf reduces transformation time. Shamanistic Focus reduces Shock and Lightning Shield mana costs; Mental Dexterity turns Intellect into Attack Power.

Rockbiter changes the threat assignment
Spirit Weapons reduces threat without Rockbiter and increases it with Rockbiter. The talent sits behind twenty points in Enhancement.

Flame Shock sets up the hit
Lava Burst names an explicit relationship with Flame Shock. Our take: this gives the Fire side of Elemental a readable sequence, but the tooltip does not promise an automatic critical strike.
Lava Burst
No equivalent talent in this Classic snapshot.
New Fire spell with a Flame Shock damage condition.
Lava Burst deals 20% increased damage if your Flame Shock is on the target.
Do not import Lava Burst’s behavior from another WoW version; this snapshot states a damage bonus.

- Classic Era
- No equivalent talent is listed in the Classic comparison snapshot.
- Forever beta
- You hurl molten lava at the target, dealing 106 to 134 Fire damage. If your Flame Shock is on the target, Lava Burst deals 20% increased damage.
An indoor rule changes the utility
The rank-one cast-time reduction remains one second, while indoor use is added. This is a practical mobility improvement that a damage chart would miss.
Improved Ghost Wolf
One-second Ghost Wolf cast-time reduction.
The same reduction, plus indoor use.
A location restriction is removed through this talent.
The tooltip does not establish that every encounter permits unrestricted movement.

Less ramp, a different healing bonus
A chance to build a target-specific stack becomes a direct Healing Wave bonus. The first cast gains a simpler benefit; comparing full-stack Classic healing needs a separate calculation.
Healing Way
33% chance to add a 6% stacking Healing Wave effect.
Healing Wave heals for 8% more.
The bonus no longer describes a proc or a stacking ramp.
8% versus 6% is not a like-for-like final-throughput comparison because Classic stacks three times.
