Rogue changes: poison setup, target restrictions and finishing-move costs
A larger modifier can cover fewer targets. Check eligibility and resource costs before comparing headline numbers.
Your Rogue field guide
Choose how you want to play.
Build around the weapons you actually have, then use control to spend more time fighting and less time recovering.
Early beta · Starting plans for level 20
What we would play, and why.
We favor talents that support the attacks your weapons and positioning actually allow. A stronger dagger option can change that decision; it should not be assumed before the weapon drops.
An interrupt can preserve the setup you already built
Practice that interrupt-and-return sequence rather than abandoning control to protect a finisher. Keep your original target identifiable and avoid using a combo-point builder on the caster by habit. Check the behavior in your beta build before relying on the demo account in a dangerous pull.
Do not buy Backstab support for a Sinister Strike routine
For face-to-face solo fights built around Sinister Strike, the cheaper builder has a direct job. Before taking Puncturing Wounds, check your dagger, your access to the named attacks and how often your group gives you the right position. A talent can be powerful and still contribute little to your current routine.
Recheck accuracy across both weapons and poisons
Inspect Forever item text before following an Era shopping list. Compare a weapon’s damage, the attacks your build uses and its accuracy benefits together. Keep a promising upgrade even if it breaks an old weapon-type preference; we have not verified one universal best weapon path.

Our face-to-face solo option pays for the builder and finisher you already use, then reaches Riposte through its parry prerequisite. We prefer this to spending on Backstab support when the routine is mostly Sinister Strike. The benefit depends on enemies actually attacking you in melee.
When to choose differently: If a partner holds the enemy and you can reliably use Backstab with a dagger, reassess Puncturing Wounds. If you rarely parry, the Riposte investment is doing less work than this solo plan assumes.
Keep the weapons ready
Check poison charges as well as duration. A buff that expired through charges can quietly change your damage across several pulls.
Use defensive time well
Gouge, an interrupt or Evasion can reduce the recovery after a fight. Do not save every cooldown for a hypothetical perfect encounter.
Plan a recovery tool
First Aid gives a non-healing class another recovery option. Carry supplies before entering a long cave or starting a dungeon.
Choose a route that suits your toolkit
Better pulls before longer journeys.
Favor quest clusters with separable targets. Stealth helps reach objectives, but clear a retreat when respawns could trap you; do not confuse reaching the objective with having a way back out.

Classic geography gives a planning baseline: Elwynn → Westfall, Dun Morogh → Loch Modan, Teldrassil → Darkshore, Durotar / Mulgore → the Barrens, or Tirisfal → Silverpine. These are route suggestions, not verified Forever quest sequences.

Tradeoffs, not a universal “best”Profession pairings
Editorial starting points using the Classic crafting foundation. Forever recipe value is still being established.
A self-supplied crafting route when your quests already take you through skinnable beasts. Make a useful upgrade rather than crafting only to fill every slot.
A utility experiment for players more interested in devices than crafted armor. Availability and item restrictions need checking in Forever.
PvP: a different set of decisions
Pool resources before committing to a control window and keep an escape available. Subtlety rewards setting up the next opening; compare that control with Combat’s direct pressure.
Choose your next gear upgrade.
Compare usable weapon damage and the talents supporting that weapon, then survivability and offensive stats. Recheck weapon requirements before changing into a dagger-centered build.
New itemization and recipes can change familiar gear choices.
Our reasoning and research
Our recommendations weigh the talent toolkit, player observations and the kind of session you want to have. Early beta impressions do not establish a final best build.

An interrupt can preserve the setup you already built
Simonize describes switching targets to Kick, then returning with the original combo points intact, provided no new points were generated on the second target.

Do not buy Backstab support for a Sinister Strike routine
Improved Sinister Strike reduces its Energy cost. Puncturing Wounds instead names Backstab and Mutilate, including a Backstab combo-point effect.

Poison becomes part of the setup
The new two-weapon attack awards two Combo Points and gains damage against Poisoned targets. Our take: it gives poison application a clear offensive purpose before the strike.
Mutilate
No equivalent talent in this Classic snapshot.
Both weapons strike; Poisoned targets take a larger hit.
The captured talent awards two Combo Points and lists 20% increased damage against Poisoned targets.
This does not establish the best weapon pairing or total damage per Energy.

Bigger bonus, fewer creature types
Murder doubles its rank-one modifier but drops Beasts and Dragonkin from the listed targets. Where you play changes the value: a larger bonus against Humanoids does not compensate for losing the listed benefit against Beasts in a Beast-heavy area.

From armor strength to the cost of applying it
The talent now focuses on Energy and Combo Points. That is a different reason to invest: our question is how easily a Rogue can maintain the effect while still using other finishers.
Improved Expose Armor
25% stronger Armor reduction.
5 less Energy; one Combo Point refunded on a five-point cast.
The talent improves application economy instead of listing a stronger Armor debuff.
The talent tooltip alone does not establish the base Expose Armor strength or raid debuff priority.
