Choose a main job, then keep enough mana and equipment flexibility to help when the pull changes.
Early beta · Starting plans for level 20
What we would play, and why.
We would choose the next talent around the job you can perform now: reliable quest damage, mana-supported shield tanking or healing. A spectacular later interaction is not an early-level plan.
A tanking weapon serves a different job
Keep a tanking weapon and shield alongside your questing setup. Start with pulls you can establish threat on, rather than making every pack larger because Consecration is available. A fast tanking weapon is not automatically the best Retribution reward.
Separate a strong interaction from a temporary bug
Do not invest in a gear or talent plan solely because an early clip shows exceptional Vengeance uptime. Compare normal attacks and Holy Strike over several pulls, and check the build before applying someone else’s result to your character.
Three trees. Different possibilities.
Beta build directions
Explore each specialization through its defining talents. Inspect an icon for ranks and requirements; the level-20 starter below gives an exact early allocation.
Holy
Healing / Holy-damage experiment
Healing tools sit alongside Holy Strike and Holy Shock possibilities. A Holy-damage hybrid is a direction to investigate.

Shockadin discussion is theorycraft, not proof that a hybrid beats a dedicated healer or damage build.
Highlighted talents are your eleven points. Follow the level labels from 10 to 20; inspect any icon for its effect.

Early talents only. The full trees below include later-level choices.
Reduce Holy Strike’s cooldown first, then add parry and Judgement support while leveling.
When to choose differently: A Retribution-first route can skip the Holy investment to reach Seal of Command at 20. That exchanges Holy Strike frequency for a different seal.
Budget for the next fight
Maintain a seal. Use Holy Strike and Judgement as mana allows, reserving enough for Holy Light if the pull grows.
Plan the second role
If you want to heal dungeons while questing, save useful caster pieces. For tanking, carry a shield and discuss pull size with the healer.
Make camp useful
Include a supply stop. Forever’s cooked food adds an experience benefit even when you can heal yourself.
Choose a route that suits your toolkit
Better pulls before longer journeys.
Combine nearby kill and collection objectives so slow travel does not dominate your session. Forsaken Paladins can look for the new local story around Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal Glades.

Finish nearby quest clusters and check trainer / profession stops. Blizzard is adding stories and profession hooks to existing starting areas.

Classic geography gives a planning baseline: Elwynn → Westfall, Dun Morogh → Loch Modan, Teldrassil → Darkshore, Durotar / Mulgore → the Barrens, or Tirisfal → Silverpine. These are route suggestions, not verified Forever quest sequences.
Later journey · mid-30s to mid-40sThe Riverglades
Blizzard describes a new questing region in this range. Keep it on your launch route; it is beyond the announced beta level caps.
Prepare for the way you play.
Tradeoffs, not a universal “best”
Profession pairings
Editorial starting points using the Classic crafting foundation. Forever recipe value is still being established.
Mining + Blacksmithing
Craft weapon and armor upgrades without detouring for a recipe you will outlevel.
Herbalism + Alchemy
Make healing and mana supplies for a class using one resource for offense and rescue.
Spend attention on allies as well as your damage target. Preserve mana for a rescue, use terrain to avoid being isolated, and evaluate a Holy hybrid against the support you give up.
Choose your next gear upgrade.
Match equipment to the job: melee weapon upgrades for questing, a shield and survival pieces for tanking, or mana and healing equipment for support. A single universal BiS list would hide those differences.
New itemization and recipes can change familiar gear choices.
Our reasoning and research
Our recommendations weigh the talent toolkit, player observations and the kind of session you want to have. Early beta impressions do not establish a final best build.

A tanking weapon serves a different job
Blizzard describes Seal of Fury as favoring fast weapons and making Judgement taunt. Consecration arrives at 20 and loses effectiveness beyond its first four targets.
Refunds the full base mana cost on a successful proc.
Forever beta
50%Base mana refunded
Refunds half the base cost. Light’s Vigil also qualifies.
-50 percentage points-50% relative change in base mana refunded
Less mana returned per proc, with another eligible healing spell.
The rank-1 proc chance stays 20%. Overall mana efficiency depends on spell costs, crit rates and spell choice.

Classic Era
After getting a critical effect from your Flash of Light, Holy Light, or Holy Shock heal spell, gives you a 20% chance to gain Mana equal to the base cost of the spell.
Forever beta
After getting a critical effect from your Flash of Light, Holy Light, Light's Vigil, or Holy Shock heal spell you have a 20% chance to gain Mana equal to 50% of the base cost of the spell.
A 20% extra-attack chance after receiving a critical strike.
Forever beta
Adds an 8% extra-attack chance after blocking a melee attack.
Blocking becomes another way to trigger an extra attack.
The 20% critical-strike branch remains, now specifying non-periodic crits. An 8% trigger chance is not 8% more damage.
